Your assignment is optional - you will receive credit whether you email me yes or no, but you do have to email me. I do not believe in zeros, nor in failure as an option. However, you get what you put in, so I encourage you to say yes....;-)
If you email me yes, here's what you are committing to. Give me your email address at work, what grade level or content area you teach, whether you are an administrator, whatever. What school you are at and a short resume/introduction of yourself. I will leave your name and contact anonymous until I find another teacher/educator/administrator in PVUSD who might like to work with you on REACH, and in turn you with them. I will make an intitial email introduction of each of you to the other - from there, you are on your own to put into practice the communication, collaboration and creativity of 21st century teaching and learning, using information technology to bridge time and space constraints.
REACH (Real Experiences Advancing Childhood Humanities) is an initiative our district is implementing with other educators/administrators outside of our walls. We are connecting students/teachers/administrators, from differing classrooms, differing schools, cities, states, countries, using technology to communicate/collaborate/create in whatever ways possible and appropriate to postively impact student learning - totally up to you and your PVUSD counterpart on what you think would be useful - how big, how small, how deep, how thin, is up to you.
It does not have to be high tech, with tons of technology - in fact, the technology is not the point - learning with and about others is, being creative and taking a risk is the experience. One simple internet connection and a Google account can do wonders (you should now know that), to connect students, teachers, administrators, whatever. I suspect your kids, your school will be richer for the adventure and you will cross into something I believe is profound and necessary in education - REACH'ing beyond the walls......
So, if you want to REACH, give me the details and I will personally try to connect you with an appropriate counterpart. Then, you have the opportunity to extend your coursework learning into actual practice - the point of taking a class. Email me yay with details, or nay. What I wish for you is to REACH beyond this ASU class, throw optimism into the wind and see what emerges in your participatory networking experience.

Wikipedia

These are some sections of information I added to the wiki about Cartagena, Colombia. I was there last summer. I also posted a picture (what took me the longest!) but I'm having trouble copying it onto here. It is the larger picture under the "Downtown" heading with the yellow cab in the foreground.
Nearby is the Plaza de Bolívar (Bolívar's Square) and the Palace of the [[Inquisition]] to one side. Plaza de Bolivar (formerly known as Plaza de Inquisicion) is more like a tiny park with a statue of Simon Bolivar in the center. This plaza is surrounded by some of the city's most elegant, balconied colonial buildings. Under shady terraces outdoor cafes line the street.
A twenty minute walk from the downtown is the Castillo de San felipe de Barajas. This is the greatest fortress ever to be built by the Spaniards in their colonies. The original fort was constructed between 1639 and 1657 ontop of the San Lazaro hill. In 1762 and extensive enlargement was undertaken and the result is the current powerful bastion. Numerous attempts were taken to storm the fort, though it was never overtaken. An extensive system of tunnels are connected underground to distribute provisions and facilitate evacuation. The tunnels were all constructed in such as way as to make it possible to hear the footsteps of an approaching enemy's feet. Some of the tunnels are open today and available to view with or without a guide.
Along the BocaGrande beach lies the Hotel Caribe. This 11,486 square foot resort was contructed with colonial architechture and is surrounded by exoctic gardens, swimming pools and views of the bay. People from all over the world enjoy the ameneties of this beautiful hotel.

Though... I'm betting the other editors of Wikipedia are going to swat that down after a while given the experience of what my friends and I once did...

Academics offered at TAA range from entry level classes to Advanced Placement in Math, Science, and English. Students have the opportunity to create their practical arts in photography, school newspaper, or yearbook. Foreign language classes include Spanish I, II, III and French I, II. These classes give the students an opportunity for an educational trip to Spain or France. Science classes include; physical science, biology, chemistry, advanced chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and physics. Math classes include; basic math, pre-algebra, algebra I, geometry, AP geometry, algebra II, AP algebra II, and pre-calculus. Fine Art classes include; drama, choir, band, and handbells.
Thunderbird Academy offeres two types of diplomas, a Standard or College Preparatory Diploma. In order to receive the College Preparatroy Diploma a student must complete 3 years of math and 4 years of science or 4 years of math and 3 years of science. Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 - 3.75 will graduate with honors, those who have a GPA of 3.75 or higher will graduate with high honors.

I posted some information on the Windcrest Light-up. This is something that happens in Windcrest, Texas (the city I am from) every year at Christmas. It is quite an event, the entire neighborhood (city) decorates and people from all over San Antonio drive by to view the houses.
It is difficult to get in or out of your house during this time, but it really is a fun event.
