If you email me yes, here's what you are committing to. Give me your email address at work, what grade level or content area you teach, whether you are an administrator, whatever. What school you are at and a short resume/introduction of yourself. I will leave your name and contact anonymous until I find another teacher/educator/administrator in PVUSD who might like to work with you on REACH, and in turn you with them. I will make an intitial email introduction of each of you to the other - from there, you are on your own to put into practice the communication, collaboration and creativity of 21st century teaching and learning, using information technology to bridge time and space constraints.
REACH (Real Experiences Advancing Childhood Humanities) is an initiative our district is implementing with other educators/administrators outside of our walls. We are connecting students/teachers/administrators, from differing classrooms, differing schools, cities, states, countries, using technology to communicate/collaborate/create in whatever ways possible and appropriate to postively impact student learning - totally up to you and your PVUSD counterpart on what you think would be useful - how big, how small, how deep, how thin, is up to you.
It does not have to be high tech, with tons of technology - in fact, the technology is not the point - learning with and about others is, being creative and taking a risk is the experience. One simple internet connection and a Google account can do wonders (you should now know that), to connect students, teachers, administrators, whatever. I suspect your kids, your school will be richer for the adventure and you will cross into something I believe is profound and necessary in education - REACH'ing beyond the walls......
So, if you want to REACH, give me the details and I will personally try to connect you with an appropriate counterpart. Then, you have the opportunity to extend your coursework learning into actual practice - the point of taking a class. Email me yay with details, or nay. What I wish for you is to REACH beyond this ASU class, throw optimism into the wind and see what emerges in your participatory networking experience.

I believed that the future of education will be mobilize and students are able to use technology in the classroom within the comfort of their own home. Technology is updated everyday, as educators we have to update our skills and knowledge to teach the the future of tomorrow. In today world technology are being use as a powerful tool such as: blog, facebook, collaboration webs, etc., as educator we must learn the skills to prepare ourself for future competion of online instituion and any requirements to educate our future of tomorrow. Being the leader of tomorrow, I also must be aware of that fact that not only the students will be educate in a mobilize environment, my colleague will also be mobilize and communication is just a touch of a botton, managing a new trend will require a lot of knowledge of technology and awareness of the surrounding existence.

Eric our students DEFINTELY need to be prepared for the competitive job market that they will be entering. Being an educator means giving our students the best tools and knowledge to go forth and be successful so I completely agree if businesses are leaning towards this then we need to get our students READY!! :)
Eric, I agree that the trend is heading in this direction. I just wonder how quickly this will become available to all schools or will it be only those school who pilot technology. I hope not. It would be great to use this for all students no matter where they attend school.
Eric, I agree that if we could get a laptop into the hands of every child then technological trends such as grassroots video and collective intelligence could become commonplace methods of instruction.
I hope that this is the way that technology goes:) I think it would be a huge asset to the students and teachers!!!
It's definitely the trend of the future. It's amazing the huge technological gains. I still remember Zac Morris's huge block cell phone. Now we have just amazing devices.
When you get to the core of all of the technology, especially online, it's all about collaboration. From grassroots video (people post one, then there is a related video, then another). Blogs - post and comments. Wikis are about collective intelligence. Social networking is essentially collaboration around participatory networking. Devices are indeed going to become more and more accessible. Then what do we do with devices and a network - we collaborate.....
I totally agree with what you are saying. It makes me a little nervous to think about and at times I feel like when you are " up to date" on technology today, you aren't tomorrow. I think teaching needs to change to better meet the needs of a modern day student.
I agree that we need to do a better job of teaching our kids using technology. At my school, we are so lucky to have a number of laptop carts that we can check out for our kids to do projects on and learn with. It is a great way for them to showcase their learning and it definitely helps to keep them engaged.
Eric, great insight. I agree with you that this is the direction we're headed in, I only hope that the funding is there to make it happen for all kids.
And I quote, "...the world got itself in one big damn hurry."
